Technical automotive engineering
I started work with General Motors in 1981 as a mechanical engineering apprentice moving into the company’s commercial vehicle division where I worked on research and development projects. This four year apprenticeship prepared me for every aspect of automotive engineer with particular focus on research & development and prototype vehicle build and testing.
This tenure was firstly in Vauxhall Motor’s then Engineering Centre (AJ Block) and later at the renowned Millbrook Proving Ground where much of my work focused on military commercial vehicles specific and durability testing.
